WILDFLOWERS RISING IN
THE BONEYARD (2023)
THE BONEYARD (2023)
As his health was fading, James Wicklund began compiling poems for an intended second collection. Completed posthumously, following his written and stated intentions as closely as possible, Wildflowers Rising in the Boneyard captures the author's contemplations on mortality, aging and physical decline; but also features poems about love, passion, family dynamics, the sociopolitical state of the world, and more. The tone of these pieces ranges from melancholy and mournful to playful and irreverent, conveying the author's existential outlook and standing as a fitting final statement.

NOTES FOUND SCRATCHED
ON A BALD SPOT (2010)
ON A BALD SPOT (2010)
This collection of poems and some short prose was the author's first collection and the only published in his lifetime. It includes works about his family, his childhood and myriad other subjects. Like Wildflowers Rising in the Boneyard, it is also very much concerned with a search for meaning in the face of mortality.
"In my attempt to provide a kind of picture of my life (Graham Greene called his biography A Sort of Life), I have become aware that life is not a narrative at all. It's more like a collection of graffiti hastily scribbled on whatever surface was available at the time."
– James Wicklund (from the book's introduction)
Notes Found Scratched on a Bald Spot is out of print via its original publishing platform. However, limited copies (paperback edition only) are available for purchase at Kibbitznest and Quimby's in Chicago, or by special request through the form below.
